When Legend Become a Myth: Reflecting on the Rumored Passing of Daddy Lumba
In the hazy early hours of July 26, 2025, a cloud of grief and disbelief swept across the airwaves of Ghana and the diaspora. Reports claimed that Charles Kwadwo Fosu—our own Daddy Lumba, the voice and soul of Ghana’s boga highlife—had passed away in Accra. While family members have since denied the reports, the mere possibility feels like losing an elder who has been a guiding star in our cultural narrative.
Over four decades, Daddy Lumba curated not just music but the essence of hospitality and warmth that defines Ghanaian gatherings. From receptions to weddings, from weddings to hospitable evenings, his melodies were the background of communal joy—woven into the threads of Ghanaian hospitality. He didn’t just perform; he entertained, united, and elevated.
Whether or not today marks the closing chapter of his life, what cannot be disputed is the legacy he imbued in our collective identity: an artist whose tunes became heirlooms, and whose spirit lives on in every celebratory dance, and every embrace of Ghanaian warmth.
As Endoorz and Ghanaian Morning, we invite you to join us in sending thoughts and prayers to Daddy Lumba and his loved ones—whatever the truth be today. We stand together, hopeful for clarity, and ever thankful for the music that shaped generations.
